Doha: One of the world’s most respected endorsements in music education has been awarded to Qatar Music Academy (QMA), making it the first institution in the Gulf region to receive accreditation from MusiQuE (Music Quality Enhancement).

The accreditation, granted by the internationally recognized body dedicated exclusively to evaluating and enhancing the quality of music education, places QMA among a distinguished group of music institutions worldwide. Established in 2011 and operating under Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education, QMA offers comprehensive Arab and Western classical music education programs while playing a vital role in preserving Qatar’s and the region’s musical heritage.

The achievement marks the culmination of a seven-year process to demonstrate that QMA’s unique educational model meets rigorous international standards. According to Dr. Ozgur Mert Esen, Head of Western Music at QMA, the recognition validates an approach that combines cultural authenticity with academic excellence.

“This milestone affirms Qatar’s capacity to build specialized cultural institutions rooted in local identity, strengthened by academic rigor, and recognized by international standards,” said Dr. Esen.

A defining feature of the academy is its integration of Arab and Western music traditions within a single educational framework. Dr. Esen noted that the accreditation acknowledges QMA’s success in developing professional educational pathways in both traditions while maintaining the integrity of each musical language.

The recognition is also a significant achievement for QMA’s Arab Music Department. Taoufik Mirkhan, Head of Arab Music, said the accreditation provides students with internationally recognized qualifications and expanded opportunities for higher education and professional careers while preserving their connection to Arab musical heritage.

QMA Director Zlatan Fazlić described the accreditation as a reflection of the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the academy’s students and staff over the years.

The accreditation strengthens QMA’s international profile and positions it as a regional reference point for pre-college music education, further establishing Qatar as a leader in advancing cultural heritage, artistic excellence, and globally recognized educational standards.
